Radio Caroline

In easterly winds force 9 with very rough sea, the Harwich Lifeboat "Margaret Graham" was tasked to assist the pop priate radio station "Radio Caroline" on Friday 19th January 1979.

The "Mi Amigo" which was the vessel with the 180' radio mast was Radio Caroline base 14 miles off Walton, put out a Mayday call saying they were taking in water, her pumps had failed and requried immediate assistance.

The Harwich Lifeboat took nearly 3 hours to reach the vessel, due to the bad weather. Once alongside, the 5 men were taken onboard, who were 3 disc jockeys and 2 crew, plus the ships cannary "Wilson", were taken off and landed at Harwich.
