The Harwich Inshore Lifeboat was launched to a jet skier reported in the water on the river “Deben” The lifeboat was informed by local mobile Coastguard units, that the casualty was now ashore with them mildly hypothermic, but safe.

Harwich all-weather Lifeboat launched in support of Essex Marine Police who had been requested to attend the cargo Ship “ CAP ROJO “ at anchor 12 miles off Felixstowe. The crew onboard reported a stowaway threatening to harm them and himself. Police units were airlifted to the ship as the lifeboat stood by. A male person was taken into custody and landed at Felixstowe docks.

The Harwich All Weather Lifeboat launched to the 17 Ft fishing Dory “ Bassett “ with two persons onboard, 7 miles East of Harwich in dense fog with engine failure. She was taken in tow to the lifeboat station and berthed overnight.

The Harwich All Weather Lifeboat was launched to the container ship “ MV Dirhami “ located at the “ Washington Buoy “ six miles east of Harwich with an injured crewman requiring hospital treatment. He was transferred onto the lifeboat and landed at Harwich to an awaiting ambulance.

The Harwich Inshore Lifeboat was launched at the request of Thames Coastguard to “ Fox’s “ marina, Ipswich. The Harbour Master had reported seeing a body in the water. On arrival at Ipswich the body which now could not be located, was assumed to have drifted under the marina pontoons. Suffolk police diving team have been tasked.

The Harwich Offshore lifeboat was launched to 35 Ft yacht “ Permare “ with 3 persons onboard requested assistance from Harwich All weather Lifeboat on Friday 28th March 2008 The yacht located 3 nm off the North Shipwash, making slow progress towards Harwich in heavy seas with limited fuel. She was escorted into Harwich harbour.

Harwich All-weather Lifeboat was launched to assist the 20 Metre sailing barge “ De Gebruder “ located 5 miles SE of Harwich (Cork Sands). The vessel with 4 persons onboard was in danger of grounding on nearby sandbanks. The lifeboat took her in tow to Harwich Harbour.

The Harwich All Weather Lifeboat was launched to a crewman reported missing presumed overboard since 03.00 from the ship “ Baltic Sky 1 “ at anchor in the Sunk deep-water anchorage 12 nm east of Harwich. Lifeboats from Walton and Aldeburgh, Air Sea rescue helicopters from Wattisham and Dover joined in the search area. A body was recovered and flown to Ipswich Hospital.

Both Harwich Lifeboats were launched to the river “ Deben “ Sand bar, 5 miles east of Harwich. The 25ft sailing ketch “ Sargasso” had run aground with one person onboard. She was towed clear of the sand bank by the inshore lifeboat and allowed to proceed into Harwich Harbour unaided. (Pictures supplied from Michael Jackson)

The Harwich Inshore Lifeboat was launched to a 13ft open dinghy with 2 persons onboard in the River “Orwell” near Levington marina. Thames CG had received a mobile telephone call from the boat informing them that their engine had stalled and they were now drifting down river in the dark. The dinghy was taken in tow back to her moorings at Pin Mill Ipswich.

The ILB was launched to the 32 ft yacht “ Dingle” run around near no 9 buoy, Walton Channel with 1 person onboard. The Harwich RNLI Inshore Lifeboat pulled the vessel clear of the bank allowing her to continue into Titchmarsh Marina.

The Inshore Lifeboat was launched to a man who had fallen from a tree breaking both his ankles at the “ Orwell Park”, Ipswich. The lifeboat was requested to convey him and a paramedic by sea to an awaiting ambulance at Levington Marina.

The Inshore Lifeboat was launched to a report of a man over board from his 20ft yacht (Boru) aground in the river “Orwell”. On arrival the male person was found to be back onboard his yacht suffering from mild hypothermia. He was transferred from the lifeboat to the Rescue Helicopter and flown to the Heath Road Hospital,Ipswich.

The Harwich RNLI all weather Lifeboat was launched to the assistance of the 32ft yacht “ Blue Bell “ approximately 24 Miles East of Harwich. The yacht with 4 person onboard had fouled her propeller and was now drifting in dense fog near the shipping lanes. She was located by using the directional equipment onboard the lifeboat and taken in tow to Shotley Marina.

Harwich RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was launched at the request of Thames CG. To assist the RAF Rescue Helicopter from Wattisham in the search of the river Deben for an overdue yacht with 1 person onboard. The Lifeboat was stood down and returned to station after the vessel was found safe and well.

Both Lifeboats were launched in response to a Pan Pan Call received from the 31ft yacht “ Lynx” 6 miles SE Of Harwich (Cork Sands) with 2 persons onboard. The yacht had run aground early and needed assistance to re-float. On arrival both lifeboats coordinated resources resulting in the yacht being pulled clear of the bank safely and allowed to proceed into Levington Marina unaided.

On arrival the yacht had re-floated herself without assistance but had in the process of doing so damaged the engine. The Inshore Lifeboat took her in tow to local moorings in the River Deben

The Harwich based RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was called to assist the 20ft yacht “ Nimrod” which had run aground on mud banks in the river “Stour”. The yacht undamaged was left on the bank whilst the two elderly male persons onboard were transferred and conveyed to Harwich lifeboat station until they could return safely.

On arrival the lifeboat towed the yacht, which had sustained damage to her keel and now taking on water clear of the bank. She was taken in tow to Shotley marina and lifted out of the water.

On leaving the yacht Blue Sprit the Lifeboat was called to a second yacht called “ Andrea “ who had also run aground on the guard bank. The 35ft vessel with 3 persons onboard was stuck solid and listing heavily on her port side. The crew requested the lifeboat set a sea anchor for her whilst she awaited the next flood tide. No injuries had been reported.

The RNLI”s Harwich based All Weather Lifeboat was launched in response to a “ Mayday “ emergency distress call received from the 28ft yacht “ Auberge” taking on water with engine and rigging failure in rough seas 6 miles East of Felixstowe. The yacht with 1 elderly person onboard was having difficulties communicating with Thames Coastguard and unsure of his exact position. On arrival the yacht was taken in tow and brought in to the safety of Shotley Marina.

The Harwich RNLI based Inshore Lifeboat was launched at the request of Thames C.G to assist with a small rigid inflatable which had been seen drifting down the river at the “Pye End “buoy. Walton backwaters .The inflatable with dad onboard had broken free leaving his 11 year old boy onboard the yacht. The inshore lifeboat re-united both parties who then proceeded into Titchmarsh marina unaided.

The Harwich Based Inshore Lifeboat was launched on Friday to an emergency call from the yacht “ Misbehave “ reporting smoke filling the cabin area of the yacht. The two persons onboard reported their position as the river Stour near Shotley Spit. On arrival it was established that the onboard fire system had activated and the possible fire had now been extinguished. The yacht was taken in tow to Shotley Marina.

The Harwich Based RNLI s Inshore Lifeboat was launched to a report of a small dinghy with 3 persons onboard firing distress flares 1 mile off Cobbolds Point. On arrival the dinghy was in fact a small angling boat fishing the crew of which had no knowledge of any flare/flares being fired.

The inshore Lifeboat was launched at the request of the Suffolk Ambulance Service to assist with a 80yr old male person who had fallen breaking his hip on the floating pontoon at Stoke Bridge, Ipswich. A specialist strecture, which is carried onboard lifeboats, was required as ambulance crews were having difficulties to move the patient. The lifeboat crew transferred him on to the boat and conveyed him to an awaiting ambulance at the Orwell Yacht Club.

The Harwich Based RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was launched to a report of a man overboard from a yacht in the Woodbridge Tide Mill. The 66 year old was reported missing by a second person onboard. A search of the river was carried out with nothing found. The lifeboat returned to station at 05.55am the person is still presumed missing.

The Harwich Based RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was launched to a report of a man overboard from the cabin cruiser “Chard”ne” in the vicinity of Stoke bridge, River Orwell. On arrival it was established that as the2 persons onboard were transferring from the cruiser to the boats tender .one had fallen in with the second person jumping overboard to help him. Both were treated onboard the lifeboat for mild hypothermia and landed at the Orwell sailing club to an awaiting ambulance.

Both Harwich Based RNLI Lifeboats were launched to a call for assistance from the Harwich Haven Pilot launch “Prospect” approximately 12 miles East/ South East of Harwich. The launch with 4 persons onboard had reported a suspected fire in the engine room and was now adrift. On arrival the lifeboats were informed that the incident onboard had now been resolved but a tow back to the harbour board pontoons would be required. No injuries were reported.

The Harwich Based RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was called out to a German registered catamaran, which had been in collision with a navigation buoy in the river Stour. The vessel was now dead in the water with the nav buoy ropes around her propellers. On arrival the lifeboat crew freed the obstructions allowing the boat to continue its journey

While both lifeboats were on a training exercise they were diverted to a yacht aground on the Guard Bank in Harwich Harbour. The ILB towed the yacht clear of the bank and into deep water, while the ALB stood by encase additional assistance was required. While towing the first yacht clear a second yacht went aground on the bank, the ILB assisted refloating the second yacht.
